Syldaxa is one of the Five Dragon Ascendants. Her teachings concern understanding the conditions around you before acting and refusing to surrender an advantage simply because an enemy expects a direct confrontation.

Her followers are taught that knowledge of the land and careful timing can change the outcome of danger before a fight begins. Avoiding an unnecessary confrontation carries no shame when the same goal can be reached without wasting lives.

Symbol

Syldaxa's symbol is a dragon claw entwined with a curling vine.

The vine represents the paths, shelter, and concealment the land can provide to those who understand it.

Black and green are most closely associated with her.

Depictions

Syldaxa is depicted as a black dragon with green visible around the face, throat, and wings. Her eyes glow green, and the same light is sometimes shown faintly between the scales of her neck.

Long horns rise from her head among thinner spines and webbed membranes. Religious art often leaves part of her body hidden by the surrounding landscape, with only her eyes or the outline of her head immediately visible.

The Hidden Path

Syldaxa fought in the final stages of the Dawn War.

One of the best-known traditions surrounding her tells of an allied force facing a stronger Primordial position that could not be approached without severe losses. Syldaxa studied the surrounding land and found a route through terrain the enemy had considered impassable.

The allied force used that route to bypass the stronger position and approach from an unexpected direction. Later traditions treated the episode as a clear example of Syldaxa's teaching that danger should not be confronted on terms chosen by an opponent.

After the Primordial Titans were defeated, Syldaxa was among the five dragons transformed by portions of their power.

Worship and Practice

Syldaxa's worship is strongest among Dragonborn in the Aldramar Isles, though her teachings have spread beyond them.

Her followers place great importance on understanding the places through which they move. A route should be known well enough that others are not exposed to avoidable danger through carelessness.

Secrecy also has a place in her worship, though concealment is treated as a tool with a purpose. Information may be withheld when revealing it would place others at risk or give a hostile force an advantage it did not previously possess.

Her teachings favor changing the circumstances of a confrontation before committing to it. Withdrawal, patience, or an unexpected approach can be wiser than proving courage through a needless fight.

Io and Ao retain their older place as the first dragons. Some journeys or dangerous undertakings acknowledge them before Syldaxa is asked for guidance through uncertain ground.

Syldaxa and the Dragonborn

During the Incursion, Syldaxa joined the other Dragon Ascendants at Thuradun and contributed part of her own essence during the Second Forging.

Her influence remains visible in some Dragonborn traditions surrounding travel and local knowledge. Where dangerous routes are part of ordinary life, knowledge that keeps others safe is often treated as something to pass on rather than keep as personal advantage.

The present whereabouts of Syldaxa and the other Ascendants are unknown. Some Dragonborn traditions hold that the Five still travel Eldareth in Dragonborn guise, concealing their identities as they move through the world.

• Conceal what must be protected, not merely what you prefer to keep hidden.

• Change your methods when they become predictable.

• Do not accept an enemy's chosen terms when you can change them.

• Do not spend lives proving courage when another path can achieve the same end.
