Nyladria is one of the Five Dragon Ascendants. Dragonborn traditions associate her with prophecy, preserved knowledge, and the careful interpretation of information whose meaning is not yet clear.

Her followers are taught to verify important claims, compare conflicting accounts, and preserve visions as they were received before deciding what they mean. Certainty is treated with particular caution when the evidence does not support it.

Symbol

Nyladria's symbol is a dragon claw framing an open eye.

The claw identifies her as one of the Five Ascendants. The eye represents observation, prophecy, and the pursuit of knowledge.

Green is most closely associated with Nyladria, with silver often used as a secondary color in religious art and ornament.

Depictions

Nyladria is depicted as a green dragon with a long neck, broad wings, and a pale underside. Her scales range from muted green to deeper forest tones, with lighter markings along the neck and face.

Branching horns rise from her head like antlers, usually depicted in brown, copper, or dark bronze. Smaller ridges continue along her neck and back.

Her wing membranes are commonly shown in warm copper or amber, contrasting with the green of her scales. Her eyes are usually pale green or silver.

Religious art frequently places Nyladria among ruins, old monuments, libraries, or recovered records. Other depictions show her watching from above while scribes or diviners work below.

Origin and Ascension

Nyladria was among the dragons who fought in the final battle of the Dawn War.

Following the defeat of the Primordial Titans, portions of their immense power were bestowed upon Nyladria and four other dragons, transforming them into the Five Dragon Ascendants. The three giant Jarls received portions of that power as well.

Traditions concerning Nyladria before her ascension already connect her with prophecy, ley lines, and the preservation of knowledge. Later accounts credit her with abilities that extended beyond ordinary speech and movement, including communicating directly into another mind and moving objects without touching them.

These abilities became part of the traditions surrounding her, but foresight remained the gift for which she was best known.

Worship and Practice

Nyladria's worship is strongest among the Dragonborn of the Aldramar Isles. Dragons and others with draconic ancestry also honor her.

Io and Ao, remembered as the first dragons, hold an older place within Dragonborn religious tradition. Their names are often acknowledged before rites concerning prophecy, important records, or the study of difficult magical questions.

Followers of Nyladria place considerable importance on preserving information accurately. Visions are written down before interpretation, conflicting accounts are compared, and damaged works are copied before further deterioration can destroy what remains.

Important records are often preserved in more than one location. When a text or discovery could cause serious harm in inexperienced hands, access may be restricted until someone has the knowledge required to understand or use it responsibly.

Prophecy is approached with similar caution. A vision may warn of something that could happen, describe something poorly understood, or lack the context needed to interpret it correctly. Nyladrian traditions therefore place as much importance on recording what was actually seen as they do on interpreting what it might mean.

The Five Great Clans

Nyladria has particularly strong ties to Clan Astranax and its traditions on Zyraxia.

Arkheon turns to her teachings when testimony or precedent must be examined before judgment. Rhogadan preserves technical records and discoveries in her name, while Aegeron and Kaelenvex invoke her when important decisions must be made from incomplete or disputed information.

The form these practices take differs between the clans, but all share the expectation that knowledge should be preserved accurately enough for others to examine it later.

Nyladria and the Dragonborn

Nyladria later joined the other Ascendants in the creation of the Dragonborn.

Her influence remains especially visible in Dragonborn traditions surrounding prophecy, recordkeeping, and important decisions. Some chronicles preserve not only what was decided, but what information was available when the decision was made. Later readers can therefore judge the choice within the circumstances in which it occurred rather than only by its outcome.

Her connection to Fate does not generally present the future as fixed. Visions, omens, and predictions are treated as information about what may lie ahead, and their value depends upon how accurately they are understood.

No reliable account establishes where Nyladria or the other Ascendants are today. Many Dragonborn believe the Five continue to travel Eldareth in Dragonborn form while keeping their identities and power concealed.
