The Lower Planes

The Lower Planes are realms associated with cruelty, corruption, domination, and destructive ambition. Baator is defined by hierarchy and enforced order, the Gray Wastes by despair and emotional erosion, and the Abyss by predatory chaos and destruction.

Power within these planes is rarely given freely. It is seized, bargained for, inherited, or maintained through fear, deception, force, and influence.

The Lower Planes are dangerous places for mortal travelers, but they are not empty wastelands. Each possesses its own inhabitants, powers, settlements, and societies, and each serves as a destination for souls whose judgment draws them toward the darker reaches of the Outer Planes.
