Alchemy, Medicine & Scribing Goods
Alchemy, Medicine & Scribing Goods covers ordinary preparations, medical supplies, inks, writing materials, and documents that can be created through the standard D&D 2024 tool crafting rules.
These items use the normal mundane crafting procedure. The crafter must have proficiency with an eligible tool, provide the required Material Cost, and spend the listed Crafting Time. One workday represents 8 hours of work.
Conventional Materials can provide the entire Material Cost of any item in this article. Special Materials are optional unless another Recipe or Formula specifically requires them.
When a Special Material is used, its listed profile shows the Material Types and Properties that can normally contribute Ingredient Credit when they are physically appropriate to the item being made.
Alchemical Preparations
| Item | Purchase Price | Material Cost | Crafting Time | Eligible Tool | Special Material Profile | Compatible Properties |
| Acid | 25 gp | 12 gp 5 sp | 3 workdays | Alchemist's Supplies | Reagent | None |
| Alchemist's Fire | 50 gp | 25 gp | 5 workdays | Alchemist's Supplies | Reagent | None |
| Antitoxin | 50 gp | 25 gp | 5 workdays | Brewer's Supplies or Herbalism Kit | Reagent | Antitoxic |
| Basic Poison | 100 gp | 50 gp | 10 workdays | Poisoner's Kit | Reagent | Toxic |
| Oil | 1 sp | 5 cp | 1 workday | Alchemist's Supplies | Reagent | None |
| Perfume | 5 gp | 2 gp 5 sp | 1 workday | Alchemist's Supplies | Reagent | None |
Most alchemical preparations can be produced entirely from Conventional Materials. A Special Reagent can instead contribute Ingredient Credit when it is appropriate to the preparation.
Antitoxin
Antitoxin can be crafted using either Brewer's Supplies or an Herbalism Kit.
Its Antitoxic Compatible Property allows an appropriate Antitoxic Reagent to contribute Ingredient Credit toward the 25 gp Material Cost. Conventional Materials can provide any remaining cost or the entire cost when no Special Material is used.
Using a Special Material does not change the normal mechanics of the finished Antitoxin.
Basic Poison
Basic Poison can accept an appropriate Toxic Reagent toward its Material Cost.
The material must still be suitable for use in a poison. Possessing the Toxic Property establishes crafting compatibility rather than transferring the raw material's own Direct Use or other effects into the finished poison.
Medical Supplies
| Item | Purchase Price | Material Cost | Crafting Time | Eligible Tool | Special Material Profile | Compatible Properties |
| Healer's Kit | 5 gp | 2 gp 5 sp | 1 workday | Herbalism Kit | Reagent, Fiber | Medicinal, Absorbent |
Healer's Kit
A Healer's Kit can incorporate both medicinal preparations and physical dressings.
An appropriate Medicinal Reagent can contribute through salves, washes, treatments, or similar supplies included in the kit. An Absorbent Fiber or Reagent can contribute when it forms part of its dressings or other absorbent material.
The finished Healer's Kit retains its normal rules regardless of which qualifying Special Materials were used to make it.
Writing, Documents & Scribing Goods
| Item | Purchase Price | Material Cost | Crafting Time | Eligible Tool | Special Material Profile | Compatible Properties |
| Ink | 10 gp | 5 gp | 1 workday | Calligrapher's Supplies | Reagent | None |
| Ink Pen | 2 cp | 1 cp | 1 workday | Woodcarver's Tools | Wood, Bone | None |
| Paper | 2 sp | 1 sp | 1 workday | Alchemist's Supplies | Fiber | Preservative |
| Parchment | 1 sp | 5 cp | 1 workday | Leatherworker's Tools | Hide | Preservative, Waterproofing |
| Map | 1 gp | 5 sp | 1 workday | Cartographer's Tools | Fiber, Hide, Reagent | Preservative, Waterproofing |
Special Materials used in writing and document crafts must form a genuine part of the finished item.
A Special Fiber can provide the substrate for Paper. A Special Hide can be used for Parchment. A Reagent can contribute to a Map when incorporated as ink, pigment, sizing, sealant, or another appropriate preparation.
Paper
Paper is treated as Fiber when Special Materials are involved because the finished sheet itself is made from processed fibrous material.
Ordinary sizing, bleaching agents, binders, and other papermaking supplies remain part of the Conventional Materials included in the Material Cost.
A Fiber with the Preservative Property can contribute when its use is appropriate to the finished paper.
Parchment
Parchment uses Hide as its Special Material Profile.
A suitable Hide can contribute directly to its construction, while Preservative or Waterproofing materials can contribute when incorporated through an appropriate treatment or preparation.
Map
Maps can be produced on different suitable substrates and can incorporate specialist inks or protective preparations.
Their Special Material Profile therefore includes Fiber, Hide, and Reagent.
A map might use Special Fiber as paper, Special Hide as parchment, or a Reagent as ink, pigment, sizing, sealant, or protective treatment.
Preservative and Waterproofing materials can contribute when actually incorporated into the finished map.
Using one of these Properties does not automatically make a document immune to water, age, fire, or other damage. Any additional protection beyond the normal item requires a more specific Recipe or Formula.
Dedicated Crafting Procedures
Potion of Healing and Spell Scrolls are associated with Herbalism and scribing respectively, but they do not use the ordinary mundane crafting procedure presented in this article.
Potion of Healing uses its dedicated 2024 crafting rules, including its fixed 25 gp Material Cost and 1-workday Crafting Time.
Spell Scrolls use their own spell-level-based scribing costs, times, and spell requirements.
Their complete rules are found under Special Recipes & Preparations.
