Heroic Oigins

A background represents the life and experience your character had before becoming an adventurer. Eldareth currently includes 48 backgrounds drawn from the 2024 Player's Handbook and selected later official D&D releases. Some options originally tied to other settings have been adapted where their mechanics suit Eldareth, with the original background and source identified in each entry.

Backgrounds in Eldareth do not grant Ability Score increases; these are determined by your character's species instead, and follow a standardized formula. Each background otherwise provides its listed Origin Feat, Skill Proficiencies, Tool Proficiency, and starting Equipment.

These proficiencies should reflect the life your character actually lived. If a listed proficiency does not fit their history, speak with the DM about replacing it with one that does. Similar adjustments can be considered when there is a clear character reason, but they should be agreed upon with the DM rather than treated as a general free choice.
