Northeast of Célaine lies the Republic of Tessarion, a country shaped by trade, urban industry, and a long tradition of arcane engineering. Once part of the Thessaric Empire, Tessarion developed institutions of its own as imperial authority declined and is now governed by the Gilded Compact, a council in which major commercial and technical interests hold considerable influence.

The capital, Zephandrel, is one of Ethelra's foremost centers of artificing and magical engineering. Tessarion is also home to large Giznat communities whose artificers have played an important role in the development of Galarium refinement and modern engineering. Advanced magical devices are most visible in the republic's major cities and workshops, rather than being an ordinary part of life everywhere.

In 680 U.R., Tessarion completed the first functional new skyships built since the Upheaval. The vessels remained difficult to construct, but their success allowed the republic to rebuild a field of engineering that had been largely lost with the Age of Wonders. By 741 U.R., Tessarion is the leading center of modern skyship construction, with Zephandrel supporting routes that connect the republic with more distant parts of Ethelra.

Trade remains as important to Tessarion as its technical achievements. Its cities and regions support their own industries and commercial interests, while wealth and control of influential institutions can translate into substantial political power within the republic.
