Célaine

Célaine is an empire in the central lands of Ethelra, ruled from Lorcionne by Empress Celestine III Viremont. Much of the empire's national politics is shaped by the imperial court, where noble houses compete for access, appointments, patronage, and influence.

Formal court life carries considerable political weight. Reputation and alliances can affect a family's standing, while masquerades remain a feature of some elite celebrations and ceremonies. Beyond Lorcionne, Célaine includes provincial towns, agricultural lands, vineyards, and large estates whose concerns are often far removed from the politics of the capital.

The Crown is advised on major magical matters by the Arcanthelion, a senior council associated with the imperial government. Célaine also maintains a professional imperial military and an elite guard responsible for the protection of the Crown.

The empire remains broadly stable in 741 U.R., though competition between noble interests continues beneath that stability. Célaine's court is influential, but it is only one part of a much larger country whose regions and communities have developed lives and traditions of their own.
