Flora & Forage of Vel'Nathar
Vel'Nathar contains a broad range of useful plants, fungi, foods, fibers, woods, and other natural resources. The materials collected here are those most relevant to gathering, crafting, trade, or regional life.
The five principal surface regions are the Lowlands, Eastmarch, Bleakthorn Wilds, Greyspires, and Northern Highlands. Lunebrook is part of the Lowlands, though individual entries identify it separately where a material is particularly associated with the forest.
A material is listed only once even when it occurs in several regions. Forage Frequency describes how likely a wild material is to be encountered within suitable habitat. Cultivated, managed, or otherwise controlled resources use Availability instead.
The Common, Uncommon, Rare, and Exceptional classifications describe overall catalogue availability. A material can still be locally plentiful within a restricted habitat.
This article describes the normal ecological baseline of surface Vel'Nathar rather than temporary changes caused by current campaign events.

Cairnlace
Regions: Bleakthorn Wilds, Eastmarch, Greyspires, Lowlands, Northern Highlands
Forage Frequency: Common in suitable exposed-stone habitat
Tracked Quantity: 1 portion
Value: 1 gp
Material Type: Reagent
Properties: None
Short Description: Cairnlace is a thin branching lichen that spreads across exposed stone in overlapping grey-green mats. Older growth develops muted burgundy and violet coloration along its underside.
Wild: Cairnlace grows on exposed rock, old walls, cairns, standing stones, bridges, road markers, ruins, mine structures, and other weathered stone. It occurs across Vel'Nathar wherever a stable exposed surface allows slow colonies to develop.
Stored: Gathered Cairnlace is dried whole and keeps well in ordinary dry storage.
Direct Use: One portion can be crushed into a small liquid sample. After 1 minute, strongly acidic material turns the lichen deep red, while strongly alkaline material produces a dark blue-violet response. Material producing neither reaction causes no decisive change.
This reveals only a strong acidic or alkaline reaction. It does not identify the substance or establish whether it is safe. The portion is consumed.
Common Crafting Uses: Dyes, leather pigments, assay preparations, indicator mixtures, and Recipes requiring a responsive botanical pigment.
When appropriate to a Recipe or Formula, one portion provides 1 gp of Ingredient Credit.

Named Non-Tracked Herbs & Botanical Flora
Bluebell Sage
Regions: Bleakthorn Wilds, Eastmarch, Greyspires (lower slopes and settled valleys), Lowlands, Northern Highlands
Status: Named non-tracked culinary and household herb
Short Description: Bluebell Sage is a hardy aromatic herb with soft grey-green leaves and small blue-violet flowers. Its leaves have a warm, slightly bitter scent.
Wild and Cultivated: Bluebell Sage favors sunny pasture margins, roadsides, gardens, old stone walls, lightly disturbed farmland, and relatively dry open ground. It is common in household herb gardens and especially familiar throughout Eastmarch and the settled Greyspire foothills.
Common Uses: Cooking, seasoning, teas, herb blends, household washes, and ordinary folk remedies.
Corren Flax
Regions: Lowlands (central countryside and River Corren agricultural network)
Status: Named non-tracked agricultural fiber cultivar
Short Description: Corren Flax is a long-fiber cultivar grown extensively through the central Lowlands and the broader agricultural country associated with the River Corren. Generations of selection have produced tall, consistent stalks well suited to strong ordinary fiber.
Cultivated: Corren Flax is grown in managed fields throughout suitable Lowland farmland. Ordinary flax is cultivated elsewhere in Vel'Nathar, but Corren Flax is particularly associated with Lowland agriculture and Stormhaven's maritime industries.
Common Uses: Linen, canvas, fine cordage, nets, packing textiles, sailcloth, household thread, and other ordinary fiber products.
Glassreed
Regions: Bleakthorn Wilds, Eastmarch, Greyspires (lower wet valleys and drainage), Lowlands, Northern Highlands
Status: Named non-tracked craft reed
Short Description: Glassreed is a pale hollow reed known for producing long, unusually straight stems. As the stalks dry, their pale outer walls become faintly translucent, giving clean-cut sections the appearance of narrow tubes of frosted glass.
Despite its name, Glassreed remains fibrous plant material.
Wild and Managed: Glassreed grows beside streams, drainage channels, shallow pools, wet field margins, and other firm wet ground. Straight stands near settlements are sometimes deliberately maintained.
Common Uses: Disposable tubes, simple pipettes, blowing tubes, spacers, narrow funnels, filter supports, craft fittings, and ordinary workshop equipment.
Named Non-Tracked Foods & Edible Flora
Thalorin Russet
Regions: Bleakthorn Wilds
Status: Named non-tracked heritage orchard cultivar
Short Description: The Thalorin Russet is an old apple cultivar named for the Thalorin Expanse, the region that existed before the Bleakthorn Shrouding. Its medium-sized fruit has heavily russeted green-bronze skin, firm pale flesh, and a sharp-sweet flavor.
Cultivated and Feral: Thalorin Russets remain under cultivation in parts of southern Bleakthorn. Feral trees descended from abandoned orchards also survive deeper in the region around old farms, field boundaries, overgrown lanes, and woodland clearings.
Old Thalorin Russets found far inside modern woodland can sometimes reveal that the surrounding ground was once settled or cultivated.
Common Uses: Fresh fruit, cider, preserves, dried fruit, pies, sauces, vinegar, and other food preparation.
