Devices & Installations

Devices & Installations covers advanced engineered equipment used for Galarium analysis, magical servicing, and local distribution of regulated magical power.

The designs in this article occupy different engineering scales. The Galarium Resonance Gauge is a portable Device. The Arcane Charging and Calibration Station is fixed service infrastructure. The Local Arcane Distribution Station is a larger facility-scale System included here because it supplies that local service infrastructure rather than performing long-distance ley transmission.

These constructions use Engineering Plans. Knowing the Plans does not replace the required Components, materials, tools, Arcana proficiency, site preparation, labor, or external power.

Large projects use specialist workdays. One specialist workday represents approximately 8 hours of relevant work by a qualified worker. Several specialists can contribute where the construction permits parallel work, but project labor cannot always be divided evenly among an unlimited number of workers.

Plan Engineering Category Finished Value Material Cost Labor External Power
Galarium Resonance Gauge Device 400 gp 200 gp 40 workdays Not required for routine use
Arcane Charging and Calibration Station Installation 1,000 gp 500 gp 100 specialist workdays Compatible regulated magical supply
Local Arcane Distribution Station System 5,000 gp 2,500 gp 500 specialist workdays Compatible regulated magical supply

Galarium Resonance Gauge

Engineering Category: Device
Construction Mode: Assembly
Output: 1 Galarium Resonance Gauge
Finished Value: 400 gp
Material Cost: 200 gp
Approximate Weight: 4 lb.
Required Tool: Tinker's Tools
Tool Proficiency: Required
Required Skill: Arcana
Required Facility: Precision arcane-engineering bench
Crafting Time: 40 workdays
External Power: None required for routine use
Plans Required: Galarium Resonance Gauge

Required Inputs

Arcane Matrix Node: 1, worth 60 gp
Harmonic Quartz: 0.5 lb., worth 20 gp
Conduit Glass: 0.5 lb., worth 50 gp
Conventional Precision Materials: 70 gp

The Arcane Matrix Node provides a stable reference architecture for repeated measurements. Harmonic Quartz acts as the primary Resonant sensing material, while Conduit Glass provides controlled Conductive pathways between the instrument's internal elements.

The remaining Conventional Materials include the precision housing, probes, indicator assemblies, fittings, adjustment mechanisms, mounting hardware, insulation, and other parts required to turn those inputs into a functional Device.

Function

A Galarium Resonance Gauge is a portable technical instrument used to examine accessible Galarium.

It can be used on Raw Galarium, Shards, Cores, Dust, and Galarium incorporated into an object or machine when the relevant material can be physically accessed.

A routine examination takes 10 minutes.

A user proficient in Arcana can determine broad qualitative information concerning:

  • purity

  • structural integrity

  • Functional Refinement

  • magical load

  • stability

  • obvious abnormal interference or contamination

The Gauge measures the Galarium's response against its calibrated internal references. It does not require a magical battery, charge pool, spell slot, or external magical supply for routine examination.

Limits

The Gauge examines the Galarium itself rather than revealing everything about the complete object containing it.

It does not replace Detect Magic, Identify, Galarium assay work, or a more complete professional examination when those methods are needed.

It also does not provide an exact market Value, universal magical capacity, exact remaining magic-item charges, complete construction history, or the identity of every unfamiliar contaminant.

Arcane Charging and Calibration Station

Engineering Category: Installation
Construction Mode: Assembly and Installation
Output: 1 fixed Arcane Charging and Calibration Station
Finished Value: 1,000 gp
Material Cost: 500 gp
Project Labor: 100 specialist workdays
Required Tool: Tinker's Tools
Tool Proficiency: Required
Required Skill: Arcana
Required Site: Permanent technical service area
Required External Power: Compatible regulated magical supply
Plans Required: Arcane Charging and Calibration Station

Required Inputs

Station-Specification Galarium Regulator Core Assembly: 1, worth 200 gp
Required Core Properties: Conductive, Regulating, Retentive
Arcane Matrix Nodes: 2, worth 120 gp total
Harmonic Quartz: 1 lb., worth 40 gp
Conduit Glass: 1 lb., worth 100 gp
Conventional Installation Materials: 40 gp

The Regulator Core Assembly receives and moderates the Station's supplied magical power. Arcane Matrix Nodes provide stable technical reference points, Harmonic Quartz supports calibration and resonance comparison, and Conduit Glass forms the controlled magical pathways within the Installation.

Function

The Station provides four principal services:

Controlled Charging: Transfers supplied magical energy into compatible materials, Components, Devices, or Systems.

Controlled Discharge: Allows compatible equipment to release or reduce stored magical load under managed conditions.

Calibration: Establishes, verifies, or restores the expected operating relationship between compatible Components and magical systems.

Powered Testing: Supplies controlled magical input while equipment is tested under operating conditions.

External Power

The Station requires an already regulated magical supply.

That supply might ultimately come through a Local Arcane Distribution Station, a suitably controlled source-interface system, or another compatible engineered supply.

The Station does not generate magical energy and cannot directly connect itself to an unmanaged natural ley current.

Compatible Targets

An object cannot be placed on the Station and automatically charged simply because it contains Galarium or is magical.

The target must have a compatible Recipe, Formula, Component specification, Device design, or engineering procedure that explains how it accepts controlled magical input.

There is therefore no universal charging time, charge-per-hour value, or relationship between gold-piece Value and magical energy.

Limits

The Station does not automatically restore magic-item charges or spell slots.

It is not a universal enchanting table, and calibration by itself does not create new enchantments or magical abilities.

Its purpose is to provide controlled technical conditions for equipment already designed to use those services.

Local Arcane Distribution Station

Engineering Category: System
Construction Mode: Assembly and Installation
Output: 1 facility-scale Local Arcane Distribution Station
Finished System Value: 5,000 gp
Material Cost: 2,500 gp
Project Labor: 500 specialist workdays
Required Tool: Tinker's Tools
Tool Proficiency: Required
Required Skill: Arcana
Required Site: Facility with a compatible regulated magical supply
Standard Primary Input: 1 compatible regulated magical supply
Standard Primary Branches: 4 independently isolatable service branches
External Power: Required
Plans Required: Local Arcane Distribution Station

Required Inputs

Facility-Specification Galarium Regulator Core Assemblies: 2, worth 1,000 gp total
Required Core Properties: Conductive, Regulating, Retentive
Arcane Matrix Nodes: 6, worth 360 gp total
Harmonic Quartz: 2 lb., worth 80 gp
Conduit Glass: 6 lb., worth 600 gp
Glassteel: 4 lb., worth 120 gp
Conventional Construction Materials: 340 gp

The two Regulator Core Assemblies manage the primary supply and provide controlled buffering and regulation. Arcane Matrix Nodes and Harmonic Quartz support monitoring and comparison across the System. Conduit Glass carries magical power through the intended Conductive routes, while Glassteel provides durable and inspectable structural architecture.

Function

A Local Arcane Distribution Station receives one compatible regulated magical supply and divides it into separately controlled service branches throughout a facility.

The standard design provides four independently isolatable primary branches.

Four is a reference design rather than a universal magical limit. A different facility can require another configuration through an appropriate Plan.

The System provides local branching, branch monitoring, branch isolation, controlled facility supply, load sharing, and fault localization.

Branch Isolation

Each primary branch can be isolated independently.

This allows damaged, malfunctioning, or inactive sections of a facility to be disconnected without necessarily shutting down every other branch.

Branch isolation also helps prevent ordinary downstream faults from immediately propagating through the rest of the local network.

Operational Buffering

The Retentive function of the Regulator Core Assemblies provides limited operational buffering.

This helps smooth short fluctuations, respond to changes in branch demand, and give isolation systems time to react.

It does not make the Distribution Station a long-duration magical storage system.

If the upstream magical supply is lost, the Station cannot ordinarily continue powering the facility for hours or days from its internal Regulation alone.

Power Role

The Local Arcane Distribution Station belongs to the distribution layer of an engineered magical network.

A typical relationship is:

Leyline or other magical source
↓
Source-access infrastructure
↓
Long-distance transmission where required
↓
Local Arcane Distribution Station
↓
Arcane Charging and Calibration Station or other facility infrastructure
↓
Compatible Device, Component, or end-use System

The Distribution Station requires power that has already been brought under suitable control.

It does not directly tap a natural ley current and does not perform long-distance regional transmission.

Service Interfaces

The System provides compatible local magical supply to downstream infrastructure.

That does not mean every magical machine can connect directly to a branch.

Specialized machinery can still require its own service interface, Elemental Resonance Coupler, regulator, Component, or other technical connection defined by its Plans.

Scale

The standard Local Arcane Distribution Station is suitable for one substantial facility or tightly connected technical complex.

It is not a citywide electrical analogue or a regional transmission network.

Large sites can require several Distribution Stations or a larger purpose-built distribution System.
