Nurathar: the Sunward Lands

Nurathar lies south of Ethelra, a continent shaped by old river kingdoms, inland empires, maritime states, and societies whose histories reach deep into the earliest ages of Eldareth. Its landscapes change greatly from the dry northern regions to the highlands and broad interior, with wetter country extending through much of the south.

Many of its modern states grew from older political and trade networks rather than replacing them outright. Roads built by former empires still connect living cities, ancient ports remain important centers of commerce, and old religious and legal traditions continue to change with the societies that inherited them.

No single culture defines Nurathar. Malkaret, the Akkarethi Principalities, Zhur-Amat, the Vanzari Confederacy, Zolhana, and the smaller states between them developed their own systems of government, belief, and social life. Trade and migration have connected these regions for generations without erasing those differences.

The past remains unusually visible across Nurathar, but its people do not live inside it. Old institutions have been challenged, adapted, abandoned, or rebuilt many times, leaving a continent where continuity and change have long existed side by side.
