Factions of Alven'Nathiss
Across the Isles of Alven'Nathiss, factions shape government, scholarship, trade, defense, religion, and the customs of individual islands.
The groups below are among the most active across Ael'tharis, Ael'nareen, Ael'eris, and Ael'delar and may serve as allies, rivals, patrons, or affiliations for a character. More detailed entries cover their histories, goals, organization, and internal conflicts.
Factions of Ael'tharis
The Magisterium
The governing council of Ael'tharis, composed largely of senior mages and other established figures and led by a rotating body of archmages.
The Magisterium oversees the island's administration, major magical infrastructure, arcane regulation, and diplomatic relations with the other isles and Vel'Nathar.
The Thaelis Conclave
An independent society of scholars devoted to the study of arcane magic.
Its members frequently work alongside the institutions of Sera'lyren but are not governed by the Magisterium. Debate within the Conclave often centers on how extensively magic should be used to alter Ael'tharis's climate, agriculture, and landscape.
The First Quill
An organization of historians and researchers studying early elven history and the Exoduses from the Feywild.
Members travel throughout Alven'Nathiss and beyond in search of records, ruins, oral accounts, and other traces of the elves' ancestral past.
The Dawnwardens
A knightly order responsible for the defense of Ael'tharis.
Dawnwardens train in both martial and magical disciplines and maintain a strong presence around Sera'lyren, the island's ports, and important coastal approaches. They also escort officials and visiting delegations when required.
The Velarion Vintners
A wealthy guild of vintners and estate owners centered around Del'velar and the Lathorien Fields.
Its members produce Velarion Wine and other prestigious vintages, combining conventional cultivation with carefully controlled magical techniques. Their vineyards and trade contracts give the guild considerable economic influence.
The Gilded Hand
A merchant consortium based largely in Thren'lynir, with interests in shipping, luxury goods, and the export of Ael'tharis's more valuable products.
The Gilded Hand holds no formal governing authority, but its ships, contracts, and wealth give it a strong voice in commercial affairs.
Factions of Ael'nareen
The Sena'veryn Circle
A druidic order based around Tir'ellan and the Thalithren Forest.
Its members monitor the island's forests, waterways, wildlife, and weather while maintaining several older sacred sites. They regularly exchange information with Galeheart Academy when storms or elemental disturbances affect the island.
The Sylaer'Quen
Mounted rangers who patrol the Relathir Plains, major roads, and the edges of the Thalithren Forest.
The Sylaer'Quen ride Lirithian Steeds bred around Rel'ethrin and use them for patrols, messages, and rapid travel between settlements.
Galeheart Academy
A small academy in Nael'vanir specializing in wind, weather, and elemental magic.
Its scholars study air currents, storms, protective wards, and magical influence over natural weather. Their work frequently brings them into contact with mariners, druids, and coastal communities.
Fael'shelar Monastery
A monastic community overlooking the Thalithren Forest.
Its monks practice meditation, martial discipline, and techniques involving wind and mist, with particular attention to balance, movement, and awareness of changing surroundings. Students and pilgrims travel to Fael'shelar from throughout the isles.
The Windwrights
A guild of artisans and enchanters based primarily in Nael'vanir.
Its members create works involving wind and movement, including banners, chimes, instruments, weather-sensitive devices, and enchanted objects used throughout the island.
Factions of Ael'eris
The Oracles of Shoral'eren
An old order of seers based within the Dreamspire of Vael'lynir.
The Oracles collect and preserve dreams and visions reported across the isles. They distinguish between ordinary dreams, magical visions, religious experiences, and those they believe may carry prophetic meaning, though interpretations often differ.
The Althir'wen Circle
A druidic circle associated with Lira'elis and the Althir'wen Pools.
Its members tend the pools and surrounding glades, watch places where the Feywild presses close to Eldareth, and investigate unusual dreams or visions that appear to originate from the land itself.
The Hall of the Silver Lyre
Vael'lynir's principal college of music, poetry, storytelling, and performance magic.
Its members combine conventional artistry with illusion and enchantment, particularly where sound, image, memory, and dreams overlap. Performers and scholars associated with the Hall travel throughout Ael'eris and the wider archipelago.
Factions of Ael'delar
The Vae'loren
An order of druids, arcanists, and celestial scholars based at the observatory on the Lerin'thalor Cliffs.
The Vae'loren chart stars, conjunctions, and unusual celestial events and compare them with records of magical activity across Eldareth. Their methods include direct observation, arcane study, divination, and older druidic practices.
The Nath'soren
Custodians and witnesses of formal oaths sworn within Thal'velar.
The Nath'soren oversee important vow ceremonies, preserve the wording of agreements, and assist when disputes arise over older treaties or promises. Some study magic concerned with truth and binding, but their authority rests primarily on their role as recognized witnesses and arbiters.
The Guardians of Syl'dareth
An order sworn to protect Syl'dareth and the sacred grounds of Ela'rithren Vale.
The Guardians watch over the tree, receive pilgrims, and preserve the rites associated with the site where the Sera'drin first arrived in Eldareth. New members swear their service beneath the Aren'thalen Arches and place their oathstones among Syl'dareth's roots.
The Ilen'syl
The governing council of Ael'delar, made up of diplomats, scholars, elders, and other representatives responsible for the island's administration.
The Ilen'syl receive visiting delegations, oversee local affairs, and organize the larger councils held at Thal'velar. During gatherings involving the wider archipelago, they act as hosts and mediators rather than as rulers over the other islands.
The Viel'arethil
A guild representing many of Ael'delar's traditional artisans and craftspeople.
Its branches include textile artists, bloom-weavers, boatbuilders, inkmakers, binders, and other specialists whose work is tied to local ceremonies and customs. The guild supports apprenticeships, exchanges techniques between settlements, and coordinates commissions for public gatherings and important occasions.
