Exotic Materials

Exotic Materials are Special Materials obtained from unusual creatures, elemental remains, supernatural biological structures, and other sources that fall outside ordinary regional foraging, agriculture, mining, or routine production.

Exotic is an organizational category rather than a Material Type or mechanical quality. Each material still follows the normal Special Material rules for Value, Material Type, Properties, Affinity, Ingredient Credit, and crafting requirements.

The way an Exotic Material is recovered depends on its source. Some already exist as part of a creature or its surroundings, while others form only when a supernatural creature or phenomenon changes state.

Feyspider Silk

Tracked Quantity: 1 spool
Value: 25 gp per spool
Weight: 0.5 lb. per spool
Material Type: Fiber
Properties: None
Affinity: Fey
Source: Recoverable webbing produced by fey-touched spiders
Direct Use: None

Description: Feyspider Silk is recovered from webbing produced by spiders whose biology has been meaningfully shaped by Fey influence. Once cleaned and wound for use, the silk is exceptionally fine and light for its strength while remaining flexible under tension.

Its strength, flexibility, and fineness are physical qualities rather than separate crafting Properties.

Raw Webbing: Fresh Feyspider webbing is pale and faintly iridescent. Newly produced webbing can remain adhesive, while older webs vary according to age, weather, contamination, and damage.

The primary source is webbing the spider has actually produced. Defeating a fey-touched spider does not by itself produce a spool of Feyspider Silk.

Yield: Yield depends on how much usable webbing is actually present. A small web can provide less than one spool, while an established nest, lair, webbed ruin, or heavily webbed site can contain several spools.

Damage, fire, chemicals, contamination, and exposure can reduce the usable amount.

Recovery: Accessible intact webbing can normally be collected without an ability check when sufficient time and suitable basic equipment are available.

A Recovery check may be required when the webbing is badly damaged, contaminated, difficult to reach, mixed with dangerous debris, or otherwise at risk during collection.

Stored: Freshly recovered webbing should be kept clean and reasonably dry. Once separated, cleaned, dried, and wound, prepared spools require no unusual magical containment.

Common Crafting Uses: Fine clothing, reinforced garments, cordage, rope, nets, bowstrings, harnesses, bindings, climbing equipment, magical textiles, and Fey-aligned textile construction.

Its Fey Affinity can satisfy a Recipe or Formula requiring Fey Affinity or Fey-resonant Fiber when the material is otherwise physically appropriate.

When appropriate to a Recipe or Formula, one spool provides 25 gp of Ingredient Credit.

Crafted Appearance: Visible Feyspider Silk forms a fine, smooth weave with a faint iridescent sheen. Individual fibers can catch different hues as the viewing angle changes.

The silk does not naturally produce useful light.
