V. The Last War of the Gods
With their resolve steeled and their course of action set, the assembled deities of Eldareth devised a plan to first and foremost seal the wellspring of darkness from which The Triad was spawned, in order to prevent the rise of new evil deities.
First, Io and Ao, joined forces to create a demiplane around the Shadowell, a pocket dimension that would exist outside of the constraints of space and time, ensuring that the well remained isolated and contained, unable to exert its influence upon the mortal world and that the darkness within could never escape to taint the world of Eldareth.
Next, Myranthus and Lerathae united their efforts to imbue the demiplane with powerful purification wards. Their divine radiance flowed like a cleansing river, permeating the very essence of the demiplane, seeking to subdue the dark energies that emanated from the Shadowell, and rendering the plane inhospitable to evil beings.
As the plan took shape, the rest of the deities lent their aid, placing additional wards and safeguards, layering protection upon protection in order to bolster its security, from elemental barriers to divine blessings and arcane sigils meant to confuse and mislead.
Finally, Eltharel, the goddess of death, called forth undying guardians to safeguard the Shadowell, preserving its secrets from prying eyes. These guardians would stand eternal vigil over the wellspring, preventing any who dared to approach from disturbing its slumber.
With the Shadowell sealed and the threat contained, the deities of Eldareth turned their attention to The Triad, devising a bold plan. In truth, the plan's true nature lay in deception; knowing that The Triad would not easily reveal themselves, they hoped to trick them into assuming their true forms before they could follow up with the second part of their plan; weakening them.
And so, three deities, Myranthus, Lerathae and Yssarel, cast aside their mortal guises and descended to the battlefield in their full divine glory, joining the mortal races in their fight against the forces of evil, knowing that The Triad, being their direct antitheses, would take the bait.
And so they did. As the Triad shed their mortal guises and revealed their true forms, the battlefield erupted into chaos as gods clashed with gods and mortals fought against mortals.
With each strike of their weapons and each incantation, the Prime Deities unleashed their fury upon The Triad, their divine might shaking the very foundations of the world. But they were not alone in their fight, for soon, the Dragon Ascendants, the Primarchs, and the rest of the prime deities, rallied to their side, their combined strength bolstering the efforts of their allies as they clashed against the forces of evil. With each passing moment, the tide of battle ebbed and flowed, the outcome hanging in the balance as gods and mortals alike fought for the fate of Eldareth. Yet amidst the chaos and carnage, one Prime Deity remained mysteriously absent...
As the battle between the Prme Deities and The Triad continued to rage, both sides locked in a desperate struggle for dominance, a sudden shift in the fabric of reality heralded the arrival of Ao, the Realmweaver. Still doning her mortal guise, Ao stepped forth, commanding the attention of all who beheld her solemn expression. With a wave of her hand, she conjured forth portals to three dimensions she had created prior to the conflict, each one meant as a prison crafted specifically for each member of The Triad.
With a roar of defiance, Malgathar, Vorandor, and Lessarith found themselves drawn inexorably towards the yawning void of the portals, their twisted forms writhing in fury as they were cast into the depths of their respective prison planes.
Malgathar was banished to the Hells, a dimension of scorching fire and torment. Vorandor was consigned to the Gray Wastes, a realm of eternal despair and desolation. As for Lessarith, she was cast into the Abyss, where chaos and darkness reigned supreme.
With the Triad sealed away in their respective prisons, Ao closed the portals behind them, ensuring that they would never again set foot upon the world of Eldareth. The Triad found themselves trapped in their new prisons, their plans thwarted, their power diminished and their influence shattered.
As the dust settled and the echoes of battle began to fade, a weary but triumphant calm descended upon the battlefield. The deities of Eldareth, joined by their mortal allies, stood victorious against the forces of evil, a victory that soon would turn bittersweet.
The Prime Deities, realizing that they could not destroy The Triad outright without risking their inevitable return, had made the difficult decision to banish them to dimensions beyond the reach of the Prime Material Plane. But they also knew that such an action would require a sacrifice on their part as well. In order to maintain the delicate balance between light and darkness and prevent The Triad from returning to Eldareth, the Prime Deities agreed that they too would need to confine themselves to planes of existence outside the mortal realm.
With heavy hearts and a solemn understanding of the sacrifices that had to be made to maintain the balance of the cosmos, the Prime Deities bid farewell to the mortal races of Eldareth. Each deity ascended to their own plane of existence, leaving behind the world they had watched over and guided for ages, and with the knowledge that their departure would leave a void that could never be fully filled.
Myranthus, Lerathae, and Yssarel retreated to the upper planes, where they would watch over the mortal races with benevolent eyes. Myranthus ascended to Mount Celestia, where the purest virtues of goodness and righteousness reigned supreme. Lerathae found her domain in Elysium, a realm of eternal peace and tranquility. And Yssarel made her home in Arborea, where beauty and creativity flourished in every corner.
Io and Ao, the twin dragon deities, chose to roam the Astral Plane, their majestic forms soaring through the endless expanse of stars and galaxies. From this vantage point, they would keep a watchful eye on the mortal realm, ever vigilant against the return of The Triad and the forces of darkness.
The Primarchs retreated to their respective elemental planes. From these realms, they would continue to wield their ancient powers, safeguarding the balance of the elements and acting in unity, as they had vowed long ago, honoring Lymarel's memory.
As for Eltharel, though she retreated to the Shadowfell, she remained ever present in the mortal realm, her influence extending even into the Ethereal Plane. From the shadows, she would guide the souls of the departed to their final resting place.
As they departed, the Prime Deities erected the Sanctified Archway, a barrier of divine energy that would seal off Eldareth from the direct influence of the gods. It would serve as a testament to their sacrifice and a reminder of the price that had been paid to safeguard the world from the forces of darkness. As the shimmering archway rose into existence, its radiant light casting a protective barrier over the world, the Prime Deities bid a final farewell to the mortals who had worshipped and revered them for generations.
Though they would no longer walk among them, their presence would still be felt in the hearts and souls of those who remained behind. The gods would still be able to communicate with their chosen champions, faithful followers, and those who remained steadfast in their devotion, and would eventually create divine messengers to carry out their will.
But amidst the exodus of the Prime Deities, one figure stood apart from the rest. Feonar, the Wanderer, remained untethered by the constraints of the celestial realms, serving as a reminder that not all forces could be contained or controlled. Embracing his role as the capricious force that defied convention and expectation, Feonar chose not to confine himself to any single plane of existence but instead roamed freely throughout the realms, unfettered by the limitations imposed upon his divine brethren. For Elgalar, in his wisdom, had created Feonar to be the spirit of freedom, unshackled by any limitations.
And so, with the departure of the Prime Deities and the creation of the Sanctified Archway, the Age of Divinity drew to a close, marking the end of an era that had shaped the destiny of the world for countless generations. In its wake, a new Age was ushered in, one marked by uncertainty, but also by the promise of renewal and wonders.
