Timekeeping in Eldareth

Across empires, faiths, and fallen crowns, time remains the one order no power can unmake. The people of Eldareth mark their days by celestial rhythm and historic scar, counting each year from the moment the world broke and began anew.

The calendar measures years in relation to the great cataclysm known as the Upheaval, the moment when the world was reshaped. All recorded years are since counted around this epochal event.

The system is known as the Upheaval Reckoning (U.R.)

- Dates preceding the Upheaval are noted as Before the Upheaval (B.U.).

- Dates after are recorded as Year X U.R.

For instance, the year 741 U.R. marks seven hundred and forty-one years since the world-altering cataclysm. In scholarly circles and temples, this reckoning is accompanied by astronomical records and imperial archives, ensuring that even as nations rise and fall, the timeline remains unbroken.

In contemporary Eldareth, merchants, nobles, and common folk alike refer to the current year by the U.R. count, and significant anniversaries are often measured against major historical dates from both imperial and post-Imperial ages.
